I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" with an LVM. Before I had a partitioned drive with one for MSWindows, one for the Linux base filesystem, one for my "Home" folder, but since I don't use windows at all anymore, and I was having trouble with the Linux filesystem partition using itself up, I decided to reinstall with the LVM. It worked like a frigging charm.

If you want to check out Ubuntu, go to www.ubuntu.com and download the desktop disk image. You can run it as a live disk. If you want to install it with the LVM you have to use the alternate install cd, which is essentially a guided network install, so you need to be connected to the internet with a wire if possible.

There is a good set of instructions for dual booting Ubuntu with various Windows here. I highly recommend trying it. The system is great. It has features that Linux distros have never had before which make it incredibly user friendly. Plus, you know how to operate a command-line interface if you need to, but honestly, there will be very little need for it. Ubuntu is the future man. Its freaking sweet.
