Great article John. It isn't only the commercialization of the internet it is all the gadgets and apps. I don't need all that crap...I don't want all that crap. It's flashy and dazzling, but how much dose it really add to the internet experience? In fact it remind me of my experience with AOL. I felt AOL was directing me to what it wanted me to see or find, not what I was looking for. I cancel it and subscribed to GFN (Genesee Free Net) and I felt freed. It is a simple direct connection to the internet. I still have it for $5 a month, so that it might survive and in the hope that it will go to a high speed service some day. For most of what I do on the internet I use an alternate higher speed service, an air card for my laptop. For me it is great. I can't get DSL at my location and I WON'T use Comcast.

As to my Geocities site, I am sad to see it go. When yahoo bought it out a few years ago, it changed terribly. But it was still there, now it will be gone. Another simple and good idea flushed down the tube. So, I have purchased a domain. It is something I have been wanting to do for some time. That's a good thing for me and it is a great opportunity to re- build my web page.

But, here is the...But...

After setting up a hosting account, with GoDaddy, I couldn't build my site the way I wanted. The file manager had to many gadgets running in the back ground and it keep freezing on me. I know there are apps and other things that will do everything for, but I want to use html and a file manager. That is what I know and that is what I want to do. I have the time and I enjoy the challenge. I was so frustrated by the end of the day, I closed the hosting account. The very nice young lady that I talked to at GoDaddy, put all in perspective for me. When I explained to her that I could not use the file manager to edit my html. Her response was,

"Why!!!! do you want to do that".

I though hmmmm, "Because that is what I want to do"

So, I found another hosting site, JustHosting.com. It is simple, easy to use, cheaper, has all the apps (if I what to us them) and more. Best of all the file manager and html editor works. Thank you JustHosting.

Well John, there might sill be hope. We (you, I and the like) will have to look farther and keep on keeping on.
